PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a device capable of detecting surely a projecting defect on a cylindrical inspection object, even in a case where the attitude of the cylindrical inspection object is tilted by a setting error at the positioning time or rotation deflection, when inspecting the cylindrical inspection object, especially both ends of a photosensitive body drum. SOLUTION: This device is equipped with a contact roller driven to rotate by being brought into contact with the circumferential surface of the cylindrical inspection object with a prescribed pressure, an elastic body or a tilting mechanism for supporting the contact roller on a support base part so that its rotary shaft can be tilted, and a distance measuring means for measuring the position of the contact roller.
