Along the workpiece (10) in a single plane, two anvils (12A, 12B) and two straightening hammers (14A, 14B) are used. They are used together to achieve four-point straightening in one or more stages. The hammers are offset from the anvil positions along the workpiece. Hammers and anvils are each spaced apart, with each anvil closer to the workpiece ends than the hammers, or vice versa : A section of the workpiece is initially uniformly-curved, the hammers and anvils being used to correct it subsequently, in a bending stage. Hammers or anvils are set apart by the length of the workpiece section for a bending stage, with the curved section between them. Three-point and four point corrective bending processes are further elaborated and illustrated in the disclosure. Hammers are adjusted to positions along the workpiece by slide blocks or carriages. The anvils are also adjustable along the length of the workpiece. Each pair may be set together, effectively forming a single hammer and/or anvil. Deformation is first measured over the length of the workpiece, before appropriate adjustments and corrective bending. An independent claim is included for corresponding equipment.
