An endoscope for performing observation by using imaging units and an endoscope system having such an endoscope. The endoscope and the endoscope system have simplified structures and are low in cost. The endoscope has imaging units (24a, 24b) for imaging an observation image, a connector (28) connected to an external apparatus (46) for performing signal processing, and a switching circuit section (26) electrically connected to each of the imaging units (24a, 24b) and to the connector (28) and capable of selecting which one of the imaging units (24a, 24b) is to perform signal transmission and reception to and from the connector (28).
