[Also in Division H1] Straight tubular fluorescent lamps are supported by means of two end caps which fit on to or are integral with the two ends of the lamp, each cap enclosing and providing connections for the end connections of the lamp, and two separate hangers each having a base part for securing to a flat surface and a stem part having the outer end shaped to engage a complementary part of the end cap wherein each stem part is flexible and the two stem parts can be bent away from each other to facilitate the entry of the tube complete with the end caps in engagement with the two hangers. In the form shown, one end cap 3, Fig. 4, encloses a bayonet plug 7 one terminal of which is connected to a terminal of the lamp and the other to a resistance wire 12. The other lamp terminal is connected to a lead 13, the wire 12 and lead 13 extending inside a protective channel 15 alongside the lamp 1. The other cap 5, Fig. 3, contains a miniature starter 23 and a capacitor 25. The wire 12 is connected to one terminal of the lamp, the other terminal being connected to the starter 23, the second terminal of which is connected to the lead 13. The capacitor 25 is connected across the terminals of the starter. Both end caps have a T-shaped rib 31 on the upper surface providing blind channels 33 into which the shaped ends of hangers 37 fit. The hangers comprise a flat part 37A for securing to a mounting surface, e.g. a ceiling and a second part 37B which extends at an angle thereto and is flexible so that the shaped end may be sprung over the end of the rib 31. A bayonet socket 17 connects the plug 7 in cap 3 to a ceiling rose. |
