PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To achieve a flat battery capable of reducing the thickness of a gold plating coated on the outer surface of an external packaging can, while preventing the gold plating from breaking away easily. SOLUTION: The flat battery comprises a positive electrode can 5 which is open on its upper end for accommodating power generator elements 2, and a negative electrode can 6 which is fixed with caulking at the inner edge of the aperture area on the positive electrode can 5 together with a gasket 3 for sealing the upper end of the aperture area on the positive electrode can 5, resulting in the flat configuration in its entirety. A nickel plating layer 23 is formed on the outer surface of a base material 22 used as the positive electrode can 5.
