PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a pairing method or the like capable of improving the communication speed with a karaoke machine. SOLUTION: The pairing method for a system 100, equipped with a master unit 7 provided with infrared-ray reception function and a network communication function and slave units 10, each provided with an infrared ray communication function and a network communication function and identified by IDs, has the processes in which a slave unit 10 transmits own ID to the particular master unit 7 by means of an infrared signal, the master unit 7 receives the infrared signal containing the ID of the slave unit 10, the master unit 7 broadcasts an acknowledgement message containing the ID of the slave unit 10 onto networks 4, 8, 9, the slave unit 10 registers the master unit 7 to be a communication opposite-party master unit 7, when the slave unit 10 receives the acknowledgement message containing its own ID from the master unit 7 and transmitting the acknowledgement message addressed to the master unit 7; and the master unit 7 registers the slave unit 10 as a communication opposite-party slave unit 10 when receiving the acknowledgement message addressed to the master unit 7 from the slave unit 10.
