PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical information recording and reproducing method which can make automatic adjustment for each disk regardless of the gravity or vibrations caused by attitude difference of the drive even if used as a mobile unit. SOLUTION: This optical information recording and reproducing method obtains a tracking error signal through a first gain adjustment by taking a difference between a first push-pull signal and a signal obtained by adding a second and third push-pull signals and amplifying with a first prescribed gain. The signals about the position of the objective lens are obtained in the second gain adjustment by taking a difference between the first push-pull signal and a signal obtained by adding the second and third push-pull signals and amplifying with a second prescribed gain.
