1,012,883. Rollers. HUPP CORPORATION. May 24, 1962 [June 20, 1961], No. 19969/62. Heading F2U. [Also in Division F4] A roller 250 for heating or cooling comprises concentric cylinders 254, 258, the annular space between which is provided with partitions 270, 274, 278 defining two flow paths C, D communicating with a fluid inlet pipe 282 via branch pipes 290, 298, respectively, and with an outlet pipe 310 via branch pipes 302, 314, respectively. Each partition is provided with a resilient seat 322 which renders the outer cylinder an interference fit over the inner cylinder thereby sealing the flow paths from each other. The seals may be adhesively mounted or held in tongue-and-groove manner. End walls 262, 266 complete the structure. The partitions may be held in place by welding or by screws inserted from the inside of the inner cylinder. In an alternative embodiment, the inner surface of the outer cylinder is provided with a layer of deformable material to obviate the need for the sealing strips 322. In use, the heated, or cooled, fluid, which may be a chlorinated liquid hydrocarbon, enters the two flow paths, splits, and flows in countercurrent manner to the two outlets. |
