PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a cooling device and a cooling method by considering environments and cooling efficiency inside and outside a factory, in a device structure for intermittently and sequentially transferring high-temperature parts such as crude cast materials in the longitudinal direction thereof. SOLUTION: This cooling device 1 is provided with: a cooling chamber 2a for housing the high-temperature parts; a conveyance device 5 for transferring the crude cast materials 4 being the high-temperature parts in the cooling chamber 2a; a cooling air supply device 6 for feeding cooling air into the cooling chamber 2a; a water tank vessel 7 communicating with the cooling chamber 2a through an upper space 7a and having a water tank formed in a lower space 7b; and a spray device 8 for spraying water into the upper space 7a. The cooling device is so structured that the cooling air is circulated between the cooling chamber 2a and the water tank vessel 7 by the cooling air supply device 6; and the cooling air in the water tank vessel 7 is cooled by the spray device 8.
