PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To compatibly materialize improvement of cooling performance and stiffness of a cylinder head. SOLUTION: The cylinder head of a cross flow type in-line multiple cylinder engine is provided with a head side water jacket 24 making communication from cooling water inlet ports 241-244 provided on one end side of a cylinder line direction to a cooling water outlet port provided on another end side and circulating cooling water in the cylinder line direction. A spark plug boss 225 is erectly provided in the head side water jacket 24 with corresponding to each cylinder 10A-10D. An upper and a lower straightening ribs 31 are extendedly provided on both of an upper and lower wall of the head side water jacket 24 along the cylinder line direction. A lower communication passage 35 making communication of divided head side water jackets 24 by the vertical straightening rib 31 around the spark plug boss 225 is provided.
