PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce weight and cost by simplifying the structure. SOLUTION: An anvil roll 3 is paired with a work roll 1 to thereby back up the work for the workpiece W by holding an intermittently fed sheet-like workpiece W between the anvil roll and the work roll 1 provided with a work means 2 fitted to the peripheral surface. The anvil roll 3 is provided to be driven in rotation both in the forward direction and in the revese direction independently of the work roll, and nip rolls 5, 6 on the supply side and the draw side of the anvil roll 3 fixed at predetermined positions at a space of the opposite part to the work roll 1 are supported by bearings to steadily press the workpiece W to the anvil roll 3.
