<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a polymer electrolyte material excellent in proton conductivity, fuel cutoff capability, mechanical strength, hot water resistance, hot methanol resistance, workability, and chemical stability and accomplishing high output, high energy density and long-term durability when used for a polymer electrolyte fuel cell, to provide a polymer electrolyte component comprising it, and also to provide a membrane-electrode assembly and a polymer electrolyte fuel cell using it. <P>SOLUTION: This polymer electrolyte material is characterized by containing at least a protective group and an ionic group.
