PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a face authentication apparatus which can simply distinguish impersonation by photography and its control method, an electronic device equipped with the face authentication apparatus, a face authentication apparatus control program, and a recording medium which records this program. SOLUTION: A portable telephone is equipped with; a photographing section 13 which photographs a face of an authentication object; a face image collating section 34 which collates a face image photographed by a photograph section 13 with the face image registered beforehand; a distance sensor section 14 which measures the distance to the face of the authentication object; and a distance detection section 32. When the photograph section 13 photographs the face of the authentication object, the distance detection section 32 measures the distance to the face of the authentication object using the distance sensor section 14. Then, based on the measured distance, a solid/flat surface determination section 33 distinguishes authenticity of the face of the authentication object.
