<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a radially expandable access system which can pass a surgical instrument of a larger diameter after the introduction of a sleeve in the sleeve for introducing the surgical instrument percutaneously. <P>SOLUTION: A sleeve body 12 consists of an axial lumen and a handle 14 which has a passage 16 which extends this lumen. This sleeve body 12 has a definite length for introducing a surgical instrument percutaneously and is built by a radially expandable braided thing. This braided thing is formed from the mesh of an inelastic filament which spreads so that the length of this sleeve body 12 is shortened when this sleeve body 12 is expanded radially.
