PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming device for ensuring high confidentiality by carrying out overwrite erasure of data at the point when a data input/output operation is interrupted and the suspended state continues more than a prescribed time. SOLUTION: A digital copy machine includes a memory means for storing input data and an image forming means for forming an image on a sheet of printing paper based on the data. A downtime of the data input during the writing of data read from a manuscript by CCD sensors 5, 54 into HDD 68, or data entered from a host unit to NIC 73 the into HDD 68 is measured on a main CPU side. If the downtime continues more than a prescribed time, the CPU 64 receives an instruction from the main CPU and carries out overwrite erasure of the data already written in the HDD 68 at the time of data input.
