PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an electronic mail system capable of easily setting a sorting rule, and an electronic mail sorting method for the electronic mail system. SOLUTION: When a user manually moves a mail to a folder, movement information registration means 12 registers the movement destination folder information and mail information to manual folder movement information 22 as movement information. A movement information retrieval means 13 retrieves the movement information with the movement destination folder information as a retrieval key, and extracts the same movement destined information. A common item extraction means 14 retrieves mail information in the same movement destined information, when the number of the same movement destination information is a regulated value or more, and determines whether a common character string is present therefor. If the common character string is present, a sorting record addition means 15 forms the sorting condition based on information related to the corresponding character string and the movement destination folder information, and registers it in mail sorting information 21.
