The method for monitoring combustion in burners, e.g. premix oil burners, comprises: (A) evaluating the quotient of two parameters related to the progress of combustion; (B) determining if this value lies in a desired range; and (C) producing a signal which indicates if this is so or not. The dividend of the quotient is related to the amount of fuel fed to the burner and the divisor is related to the amount of air fed to it. An independent claim is included for apparatus for carrying out the method.
