The timer has an electronic display unit (4), and a control unit for controlling the display unit, such that the display unit displays a program, time, on-state, and time scale. The time scale includes a period of less than 24 hours e.g. 2, 5 hours. The control unit changes start time and end time of the period of the time scale, during the unchanged length of the period of the time scale.
