In a diesel engine (1) provided with a turbocharger (50) and exhaust gas recirculation device (4, 5, 6), a sensor (39) which detects the fresh air amount supplied by the turbocharger (50) to the engine (1), and a sensor (33, 34, 39, 41) which detects the exhaust gas recirculation amount recirculated by the exhaust gas recirculation device (4, 5, 6), are provided. The controller (41) compares the sum of the fresh air amount and exhaust gas recirculation amount with a predetermined amount, determines whether or not the turbocharger (50) is causing overboost, and reduces the supercharging pressure of the turbocharger (50) when the turbocharger (50) is determined to cause overboost (S307, S310). <IMAGE> |
