Pyridone azo compounds excellent in heat resistance, light fastness and solubilities in water and organic solvents; colorant-containing curable compositions excellent in the molar extinction coefficient and color value of dye, light fastness, heat resistance, pattern-forming properties (developability), and the prevention of color mixing and color omission in the manufacturing process; color filters; and a process for production thereof. Pyridone azo compounds having structural units represented by the general formula (I) and tautomers thereof; and colorant-containing curable compositions, characterized in that the colorant contains a pyridone azo compound having a structural unit represented by the general formula (I) and/or a tautomer thereof: wherein R<SUP>5</SUP> is an optionally substituted divalent connecting group; R<SUP>6</SUP> is hydrogen or methyl; and R<SUP>7</SUP> is a group containing a pyridone azo structure.
