There are provided a signal processing device and a signal processing method for performing equalization which can be converted with high accuracy by using a simple configuration and a small amount of calculation for adjustment. An equalizer includes: a first equalizer having a first pre-equalizer (40) for equalizing a portion preceding a signal time position and a first post-equalizer (41) for equalizing a portion following the signal time position which are connected in the longitudinal way; a second equalizer having a second post-equalizer (42) and a second pre-equalizer (43) which are connected in the longitudinal way; an adjusting circuit (48) for respectively adjusting the filter coefficients of the first post-equalizer (41) and the second pre-equalizer (43); and setting means for setting the adjusted filter coefficients in the second post-equalizer (42) and the first pre-equalizer (40). The circuit configuration is simple. When the circuit is made into an IC, it is possible to reduce the circuit size and power consumption. Moreover, the calculation amount for adjustment is not large and convergence can be performed at a high speed with a high accuracy.
