A device for controlling home appliances by using PLC(Power Line Communication) is provided to control the plural home appliances by using one power line modem without installing the power line modems in each home appliance, thereby reducing costs required to realize a home network using the PLC and facilitating its installation. A device for controlling home appliances by using PLC comprises a key input unit(10), a main body(A), and a switch unit(50). The main body(A) is connected to an external power line to perform the PLC. When a home appliance is connected to the switch unit(50) in a room where the main body(A) is installed, the main body(A) outputs switching signals of switches(S1,S2,S3,S4), assigned to each home appliance, so as to switch on/off the switches(S1,S2,S3,S4) of the switch unit(50). If the home appliance is not connected to the switch unit(50) in a room where the main body(A) is installed, the main body(A) outputs the switching signals through the power line. In the switch unit(50), at least one or more switches(S1,S2,S3,S4), which are switched on/off by the main body(A) and are controlled to supply power of the power line to the home appliance as a control object, are arranged.
