An A.C. mains adaptor 4 delivers a low voltage current to a rechargeable battery 5 which is connected to a transducer 6, which operates a circuit breaker 7 when activated by a signal from a modified remote control handset, disconnecting the mains electricity supply from the appliance. A further signal from the handset reverses the circuit breaker with power from the battery and reconnects the mains electricity supply to the appliance. The apparatus may be directly wired to, or incorporated within, the appliance. This allows the appliance to be operated by remote control but avoids wasting energy in a standby mode. |
