A combined intake air cleaner and silencer unit comprises a casing 1 Fig. 2 containing synthetic resin impregnated pleated - paper filter elements 22, individually serving the carburetter air intakes 21 Fig. 1, of an engine having at least two carburetters 18, 19, and an acoustically tuned air intake pipe 2 fitted to the casing. The air intake pipe 2 is tuned by a hole 4 located approximately at half the length of the pipe. Crank-case and valve cover breather pipes 29 and 31 are connected to the casing 1 by a vent pipe 34.
