A rust layer for a combustion grate (especially a feed or rotary grate) of a furnace (3) consists of a number of metallic fire or grate bars whose furnace (3)-facing surface (4) is at least in part of a temperature-, corrosion- and abrasion-resistant non-metallic layer (5) which is so thin that it only absorbs pressure and thrust loads. To prevent rewelding in the case of a feed grate, layer (5) is only present on the fire bars in the contact zones with adjacent fire bars, whereas in the case of rotary grates it is present on the entire furnace (3)-facing surface (4). |
