Method has the following steps: definition of a desired characteristic curve or characteristic curve region for the chosen output voltage range of the receiver (6) in response to the radiation received from a transmitter (2), which in turn is dependent on its operating current; determination of the actual characteristic curve or curve region; comparison of the curves and; alteration of the resistance loading of the receiver until the desired output characteristic curve is obtained and correspondingly the desired output parameters. An Independent claim is included for a corresponding turbidity sensor.
