An operation control device of a reciprocating compressor is provided to decrease switching loss of a triac, and to improve operation efficiency of the compressor by connecting a diode to the triac in parallel and passing positive half wave of current through the triac and the other negative half wave through the diode. An operation control device of a reciprocating compressor driven by voltage applied in switching a triac is composed of a diode connected to the triac in parallel to pass half wave of current applied to a motor, and a microcomputer passing the other half wave of current flowing through the diode with the triac by controlling switching. The diode is connected reversely to the triac in parallel to pass negative half wave of current. The diode is connected forward to the triac in parallel to pass positive half wave of current.
