The method involves allocating roots of N1 covering trees to primary commutation units, where the trees transport N1 streams simultaneously. A transmission path is allocated to each remaining secondary commutation units, where the path comprises a set of links that are available when the N1 streams are transported towards one of the primary commutation units. The path comprises a covering tree having the root for one primary commutation unit.
