摘要 <P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a backlight unit capable of providing a high-luminance characteristic, while reducing the number of light sources by reducing the thickness of the light guide plate, in a backlight unit. <P>SOLUTION: This backlight unit includes the light sources 1, a frame 2, the light guide plates 3 and a reflecting plate 5. In the backlight unit, the two wedge-shaped light guide plates 3, each formed by directing a surface with a pattern 6 formed thereon to the back surface, are stacked on top of each other so as to form a rectangle; the light sources 1, each covered with a light source cover 7, are arranged at both ends of the stacked light guide plates 3; and the reflecting plate 5 is mounted under the lower light guide plate 32. The light, emitted from the light sources 1, becomes a light directed toward the front surface by being diffused and refracted by the pattern 6 of the lower light guide plate 32 and becomes light directed toward the front surface by diffused and refracted by the pattern of the upper light guide plate 31, and light, without being guided to the front surface by the pattern 6, becomes a light directed toward the front surface by being reflected by the reflecting plate 5. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2006,JPO&NCIPI
