PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a communication system which can correctly determine whether defective conditions are encountered in a controller on a network and can recover the controller considered to be defective. SOLUTION: When a monitor ECU for monitoring several ECU's on the network determines that there is an ECU which stops transmission (S100: YES), it transmits a request for recover operations to the ECU (hereinafter referred to as the ECU considered as defective) for making it perform recover operations (S130). On the other hand, when normal ECU's other than the ECU considered as defective receive a request for recover operations from the monitor ECU, even though they have received a monitor target frame from the ECU considered as defective, they transmit an objection frame indicating the anomaly of the monitor ECU. When the monitor ECU receives the objection frame, it performs recover operations (S150: YES→S180). Also, when the ECU considered to be defective receives the objection frame from the normal ECU's, it does not perform recover operations. COPYRIGHT: (C)2006,JPO&NCIPI
