PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image reading apparatus (original reading apparatus) capable of sharply reading an image on a first side and an image on a second side, carrying out the process from image reading to an image output in a short time, and providing ease of maintenance. SOLUTION: The original reading apparatus includes: an original carrying means for carrying an original along an original carrying path; a first image read means for reading the image on the first side of the carried original; and a second image read means for reading the image on the second side of the carried original, wherein the first and second image read means are image read means adopting a reduction optical system each comprising a light source, a mirror, a lens, and an image sensor, and the second image read means is designed as a unit in a way that the mirror, the lens, and the image sensor form one aggregate and removably loaded to the original carrying means as one unit.
