PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a solid-state image pickup device capable of suppressing the generation of a fixed pattern noise by ensuring linearity of signal output. SOLUTION: A modulation transistor includes a circular gate 6, a source region 7 formed inside the circular gate, a drain region 8 formed outside the circular gate, and a carrier pocket 10 being a carrier pocket formed on the lower part of the circular gate positioned between the source region and a photoelectric conversion element, and holding light generation charges from the photoelectric conversion element and changing a threshold of the modulation transistor. In the transistor, a distance from an external edge side of the carrier pocket in a region where the circular gate and the photoelectric conversion element are adjacent to an external edge side of the circular gate is different from a distance from an external edge side of the carrier pocket in a region other than the region where the circular gate and the photoelectric conversion element are adjacent to the external edge side of the circular gate.
