PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a device for easily acquiring a reference position for position control of a switching claw for switching a paper sheet conveying path, and improving a maintenance property. SOLUTION: The switching claw 30 of the paper sheet conveying device is controlled to rotate in response to an instruction to discharge a paper sheet to a paper discharge tray 21 as shown in Fig. (a) or to convey to a carrying-in path 41 for double face printing as shown in Fig. (b). A movement amount is controlled by the number of steps of a stepping motor 32 from an initial reference position. When abnormality such as a paper jam occurs, a motor stops. At this time, a position of the switching claw 30 is unknown, and the switching claw 30 moves to a predetermined initial reference position by a spring 33 for energizing the switching claw 30 and is stopped by a stopper. Even when the device unexpectedly stops, the switching claw 30 returns to a predetermined retreat position, and thus, the switching claw 30 does not interrupt to cause difficulty in operation in processing the paper sheet remaining in the device.
