<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical recording material which can be used not only in a visual light area but also in an ultraviolet area, and which enables the arbitrary selection of the wavelength of laser light and a difference between reflection factors before and after recording. <P>SOLUTION: The write (write-once-read-many) optical recording material, which can be used as a recording layer of an optical recording medium, is composed of a fluoride thin film; and a change in the reflection factor, which occurs with the advance of crystallization caused by the heating of the fluoride thin film, is utilized.
