<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve the problem that in a method by which power is supplied to a hard disk which is connected to a backplane and controlled by a disk array controller irrespective of the state of the hard disk, the transmitting efficiency and reliability are degraded when a damaged hard disk malfunctions due to the trouble of the control board. <P>SOLUTION: Logical disconnection is conducted to the hard disk 32a recognized as in the damaged state by the disk array controller 20. A command is transmitted to the backplane 30 and displayed by an LED so that an administrator is notified of the state of damage of the hard disk 32a A switch 33a for controlling power supply to the hard disk 32a is operated so that the power supply to the damaged hard disk 32a is stopped.
