PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a silver oxide battery having very superior rate load characteristics. SOLUTION: The silver oxide battery has a positive electrode 1, containing silver oxide as an active material and a negative electrode 3 containing particulate zinc or zinc alloy as an active material; and when the silver oxide battery is discharged under the condition of 50 mA/cm<SP>2</SP>at 20°C, closed circuit voltage after one minute is at least 1.35 V, and the closed circuit voltage after 10 minutes is at least 1.25 V.
