PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for easily removing mercury from a liquid hydrocarbon. SOLUTION: The method comprises the steps of: forming minute aqueous phases in the liquid hydrocarbon by adding a water-agglomerating agent to the hydrocarbon containing water, a sulfur compound and mercury to agglomerate water into the water-agglomerating agent; producing a solid mercury compound by reacting the sulfur compound with mercury in the minute aqueous phases; and removing the solid mercury compound. The method may also comprise the steps of: adding water and the sulfur compound to the liquid hydrocarbon containing mercury; forming minute aqueous phases in the liquid hydrocarbon; producing the solid mercury compound by reacting the sulfur compound with mercury in the minute aqueous phases; and removing the solid mercury compound.
