PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a rotation transmitting device having short axial length, compact size, and light weight. SOLUTION: A cam surface8 is provided on the outer periphery of a large diameter portion 2 of a first shaft 1, and a cylindrical surface 7 is formed on the inner periphery of an outer ring 3 provided outside of the large diameter portion 2. A disc-shaped roller 11 assembled between the cylindrical surface 7 and the cam surface 8 is stored in a diametrical direction groove 10 provided on one surface of an armature 9 made from a magnetic element. A switch spring 13 is assembled between the armature 9 and the large diameter portion, and the armature 9 is elastically held at a neutral position engaging/releasing the roller 11. A rotor 18 is pressed in an opening end portion of the outer ring 3, and an electromagnet 22 is opposed to the rotor 18. The armature 9 is adsorbed to the rotor 18 by energizing of the electromagnet 22 to an electromagnetic coil 22a. The roller 11 is engaged with the cylindrical surface 7 and the cam surface 8 by relative rotations f the armature 9 and the first shaft 1, thereby transmitting the rotations of the first shaft 1 to the outer ring 3.
