PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To form images in good quality by preventing deviation of a position where a latent image is formed in a sub scanning direction nearly orthogonal to a main scanning direction in an image forming apparatus which has both a controller for outputting an image signal corresponding to a received image command, and an engine part for forming the latent image on a latent image carrier by scanning light beams modulated according to the image signal from the controller by a resonantly oscillating oscillation mirror in the main scanning direction. SOLUTION: After a deflector is driven on the basis of a reference drive signal, a switching part 103 is switched to the side of a PLL processing part 101 of a drive signal controlling part 10Y. In consequence, PLL processing is carried out on the basis of a reference signal Sr from a main controller MC and the reference drive signal so that a phase of the reference signal and a phase of the reference drive signal have a predetermined relative relationship.
