A method is provided for the delivery into a neuron of a microparticle of average particle diameter 0.5µm containing a pharmaceutically active substance, comprising the administration of said particle to said neuron. Also provided are methods for the treatment of diseases of the nervous system comprising the use of such microparticles containing pharmaceutically active substance.
