<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus which allows execution of image formation condition control by forming the most suitable toner sticking pattern according to an apparatus state of the image forming apparatus and is capable of shortening an execution time of generation and detection of the toner sticking pattern for use in the image formation condition control, when employing a multi-sensor array system. <P>SOLUTION: An arrangement of a toner sticking pattern in a plurality of colors, which should be transferred and formed on an intermediate transfer belt 18 is switched (among an arrangement A, an arrangement B, or an arrangement C) in accordance with a recognition result of the apparatus state including at least one of a use state and a use history of an apparatus main body.
