PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a controller for a variable valve mechanism capable of setting the amount of feedback control for controlling the amount of cam travel of a three-dimensional cam in accordance with the direction of cam travel and determining in which direction of the direction for reducing a valve lift amount and the direction of increasing amount of valve lift the three-dimensional cam is moved to perform feedback control of the three-dimensional cam suitable for amount of demand with high precision. SOLUTION: This control means is provided with a cam travel direction determining part for determining the direction of travel of the three-dimensional cam and a control amount setting part for setting amount of feedback control for controlling amount of cam travel of the three-dimensional cam in accordance with the direction of cam travel determined by the cam travel direction determining part.
