PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a steel strip rolling method which inhibits the generation of the wavy edge apt to occur in a steel strip on the inner circumferential side of a coil by setting the coiling tension of the steel strip so that the circumferential compressive stress exerted on the steel strip on the inner circumferential side of the coil does not exceed the yield stress of the steel strip. SOLUTION: When a steel strip is coiled, the circumferential compressive stress at a center portion of the width of the steel strip on the innermost circumference of the coil caused by the shrink-deformation of a sleeve is calculated based on the outside diameter of the coil, the inside diameter of the sleeve, the outside diameter of the sleeve, the winding tension, the Young's modulus of the sleeve, and the Young's modulus of the steel strip, and the circumferential compressive stress in the surface layer on the sleeve side of the steel strip on the innermost circumference of the coil caused by the bending deformation is calculated based on the outside diameter of the sleeve, the thickness of the steel strip, and the Young's modulus of the steel strip. The steel strip is coiled so that the total of the circumferential compressive stresses in the surface layer on the sleeve side of the center portion of the width of the steel strip on the innermost circumference of the coil is smaller than the yield stress of the steel strip to be coiled, and rolled by setting the upper limit of the tension.
