PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a shape straightening apparatus of a steel sheet with which the deviation of a passing position of the steel sheet to the target position is corrected and the actual effect of the shape straightening of the steel sheet and/or the practical result of damping is surely displayed. SOLUTION: The shape straightening apparatus 10 for performing the damping and the shape straightening by acting magnetic force on a travelling steel sheet 11 includes electromagnets 12 for acting magnetic force in a crossing direction to the steel sheet 11, current detecting means 13 for detecting currents which flow to the electromagnets 12, electromagnet moving means 14 for moving the electromagnets 12 in the direction in which the electromagnets are made to approach and recede from the steel sheet 11 and a control means 15 for controlling the motion of the electromagnet moving means 14. When the ratio of the current value detected the current detecting means 14 to the maximum current value which can flow through the electromagnet 12 is not lower than the predetermined reference value, the electromagnets 12 are moved so that the ratio is less than the reference value.
