<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a lithium secondary battery capable of improving by leaps and bounds the charge and discharge cycle characteristics by suppressing generation of gas originated from decomposition of a non-aqueous electrolyte, while suppressing increase of manufacturing cost of the battery. <P>SOLUTION: The lithium secondary battery has a power generation element comprising a negative electrode 2 containing a negative electrode active material particle consisting of silicone and/or silicone alloy, a positive electrode 1 containing a positive electrode active material consisting of a lithium transition metal compound oxide, and a non-aqueous electrolyte housed in an aluminum laminate outer package 6.
