<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for driving a plasma display panel by which an abnormal sound due to vibration of the plasma display panel itself is removed. <P>SOLUTION: In a subfield group consisting of a plurality of continuous subfields, in the case of generating selective discharge to transfer a state of a discharge cell to a state of a light out mode by applying a first pixel data pulse to the discharge cell in one subfield according to a luminance level indicated by an input video signal and after that, executing drive for making only a discharge cell set in a lighting mode to repeatedly perform sustaining discharge by applying a second pixel data pulse to the discharge cell to generate the selective discharge again in each of the subfields following the one subfield, when an average luminance level of the input video signal is lower than a predetermined luminance level, the number of the second pixel data pulses to be applied to the discharge cell is reduced in the subfield group in comparison with the case that the average luminance level is higher. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2006,JPO&NCIPI |
