PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical disk recorder warning the user before a rewriting frequency of the rewritable optical disk reaches the predetermined frequency where the disk cannot be rewritten. SOLUTION: A control section 16 issues a 1st reading instruction for reading out the rewriting frequency from a management area of the disk D1 to a recording/reproducing section 11 when a rewriting process or a displaying process of rewriting frequency is carried out. The control section 16 instructs a display section 9 to display a specified warning when the rewriting frequency is larger than a predetermined value. Also, the control section 16 issues a 2nd reading instruction to the recording/reproducing section 11 so as to read out the rewriting frequency and an initializing frequency from the management area of the disk D1 at the initialization process, then the writing frequency and the initializing frequency read out from the disk D1 are stored. User's convenience is improved, since the warning is beforehand issued to the user before the rewriting frequency reaches the limit and also the rewriting frequency is not reduced even though the initializing process is carried out.
