PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a variably displaying sign device having the highly reliable fail-safe function with a simple structure. SOLUTION: This sign device 10 has a support part 13 for juxtaposing and rotatably supporting a plurality of sign bodies 12 forming a triangular column shape, an interlocking mechanism 14 for interlocking rotation of these sign bodies 12, a driving motor 15 for rotating the sign bodies 12, an electromagnetic clutch 16 for separating the driving motor 15 from the interlocking mechanism 14 in abnormality such as power failure, and an energizing means 17 for energizing the interlocking mechanism 14 by an elastic body so that the sign bodies 12 rotate to a fixed position for displaying a fail-safe pattern. When the driving motor 15 is separated by the electromagnetic clutch 16, the plurality of sign bodies 12 are displaced to the fixed position by being energized by the energizing means 17, and the fail-safe pattern is displayed.
