PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing a pneumatic tire which makes channel bottom cracking resistance and low rolling resistance coexistent with each other without lowering molding work properties even when tread rubber is thinned. SOLUTION: In the method for producing the pneumatic tire, an unvulcanized tire in which a cap rubber layer 2 and a base rubber layer 3 are laminated in a tread rubber layer 1 and vulcanized in a mold. The cross section of the tread rubber layer 1 before being stuck to a crown part, the lamination interface between the cap rubber layer 2 and the base rubber layer 3 is flattened, the peripheral surface of the cap rubber layer 2 having a width corresponding to a lug channel 2b opening on the shoulder side is upheaved in a thick wall shape, and the inner peripheral surface of the base rubber layer 3 having a width corresponding to the lug channel 2b is molded in a shape notched in a thin wall shape.
