摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a casting apparatus with which the casting of a polycrystalline silicon for solar battery having high quality can be performed at a low cost when the polycrystalline silicon is cast, and a method for casting the silicon using this apparatus. SOLUTION: In the casting apparatus provided with a melting crucible 1 for tapping off molten silicon 3 obtained by heating and melting silicon raw material held in the inner part from a crucible hole 1a for tapping a molten material arranged at the bottom part, a nozzle 4 which is suspended so as to cover the crucible hole 1a at the outside of the molten crucible 1 and has a tip molten material tapping hole 4a at the lower end, and a mold 9 in which a mold releasing material 12 is arranged and which holds and solidifies the molten silicon tapped from the tapping hole 4a; the nozzle 4 is composed by combining trapezoidal foot parts of a plurality of equal foot trapezoidal plates 13 having mutually almost same sizes and the cross sectional area of the tapping hole 4a is made to be 1 mm<SP>2</SP>-2,500 mm<SP>2</SP>.
